Adult DBT Program


Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with additional focus on emotional and social aspects for a wide variety of mental health disorders.



Our program is designed to help individuals properly manage and decrease the severity of the symptoms they experience throughout their everyday life to promote safe and healthy mental states.



This treatment has been shown to be effective in reducing self-destructive urges that result from a wide range of illnesses.



Personalized Treatment

What sets DBT apart is its focus on the management of symptoms rather than finding a “cure” for them. Each DBT session is personalized to the individual. Sessions help clients to customize the coping skills necessary to deal with their individualized symptoms.

While the treatments may vary from person to person, DBT has four core principles that always remain the same:

  • Mindfulness
  • Emotional regulation
  • Interpersonal effectiveness
  • Distress tolerance

Each of these principles creates the DBT experience and teach individuals ways to tolerate and manage mental health symptoms that can include: mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, as well as those dealing with substance abuse and self-harm urges and behaviors.

Multiple Levels of Treatment

At MHS, we offer three types of DBT program for our adult clients. These include state-certified Adherent DBT, intensive outpatient DBT, and one-day weekly DBT treatment options.

These are recommended based on a variety of factors, including the severity of the symptoms a person is experiencing and the functional impairment those symptoms cause.

Clients who successfully complete their DBT program will have the option to participate in a DBT aftercare program that provides ongoing support. Each level of therapy is offered via our experienced, expert staff.

Goals of DBT

The main goal of DBT is to help individuals deal with distress and emotions in such a way that they can still maintain a functional, fulfilling life. When encountering hardships in life, clients can use the skill sets learned through the four core modules of this treatment method to accept and manage distress in a healthy, constructive way.

This treatment can also help to manage any self-destructive urges and behaviors they might feel throughout the process. This leads to a significant boost to the quality of life of many individuals and provides the essential groundwork for effective relationships.
