Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is a widely used therapy for a large variety of mental health disorders. Its popularity stems from decades of research and practice that demonstrate its clinical effectiveness.
CBT is designed for people whose thoughts and beliefs affect how they feel, how they relate to others, and how they function in the world. CBT recognizes that our thinking, or cognitions, play a central role in emotional distress and behavior problems. Thus, to reduce distress and solve problems, CBT clients actively participate in a process that examines the validity of automatic thoughts and core belief systems that contribute to mental illness, replacing ineffective thinking with more balanced and healthy thoughts. In addition to changing cognitions, CBT works to modify maladaptive behavioral patterns.
The CBT IOP program at MHS meets twice weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays. This program works closely with other providers, including existing individual therapists, to ensure our clients receive the highest level of comprehensive mental health services to meet their individual needs. Length of treatment is variable based on medical necessity and goal attainment.
