Food Resources for Minnesotans During the Government Shutdown
Oct 24, 2025
With the ongoing federal government shutdown, many individuals and families are facing uncertainty about when they’ll receive their usual benefits. The Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families recently announced that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) food benefits will not be issued for November until the shutdown ends or further federal guidance is provided. The cash portion of MFIP will still be distributed.
At Mental Health Systems (MHS), we understand how stressful and destabilizing these disruptions can be, especially when it comes to feeding yourself or your family. Food insecurity can intensify feelings of anxiety, depression, and hopelessness, and we want to make sure our community knows that help is available right now.
Find Local Food Support in the Twin Cities
If you or someone you know is impacted, there are organizations throughout Minnesota working hard to ensure access to food. Hunger Solutions Minnesota provides an online “Find Help” tool that connects you with local food shelves, meal programs, and other community resources.
Simply enter your zip code to find a list of nearby food shelves. Some may require appointments or have specific eligibility guidelines, so it’s best to schedule those appointments as soon as possible.
