Motivational Interviewing

This seminar will provide an overview of motivational interviewing. Reviewing the origins and research supporting its efficacy, to in depth exploration of the spirit and fundamental processes. There will be opportunities for discussion and experiential learning throughout the day.

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine the spirit and 4 fundamental processes
  • Describe ambivalence and introduce skills to cultivate change talk
  • Identify and understand discord and approaches to effectively respond

Presenter:

Karley Jorgensen, MA, LPCC, serves the Minnesota Department of Corrections as an Associate Warden. Throughout her career she has assumed many roles including clinical therapist and program director. She has worked with both incarcerated male and female individuals. Additionally, she has experience in juvenile residential treatment and community corrections. She has been a motivational interviewing trainer since 2012. She provides MI coaching and coding services through use of the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) tool.
