Join Dr. Mark Carlson for a hands-on, practical workshop for mental health professionals in the Duluth area. He will offer tips and tools to assist you in helping your clients build lasting change, increase life satisfaction, and connect more deeply with their values and purpose.

This training session is focused on increasing daily functioning to increase life satisfaction.

Through an engaging blend of lectureinteractive workshops, and real-world application, you’ll explore how to help the following types of clients:

  • Challenging clients
  • Clients with chronic conditions, including safety issues, trauma, and dual disorder
  • Serious and persistent mental illness diagnoses
  • Serious depression or anxiety

This session goes beyond theory. You’ll walk away with tools and insights you can immediately integrate into your clinical work. Thought-provoking discussions and hands-on exercises will bring these concepts to life, giving you a renewed perspective on guiding clients toward growth and fulfillment.

A 30-minute Q&A with Dr. Mark Carlson will immediately follow the session.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Mark Carlson, is the founder, President/CEO, and owner of Mental Health Systems, PC (MHS).  MHS is one of the largest specialized clinics in the United States.  He has provided direct care, training, and clinical supervision to the care of over 10,000 clients with co-occurring disorders.  He has provided training and consultation to therapists, teams, case-management agencies, hospitals, and mental health clinics.  He has experience working with chronic pain and chronic conditions throughout his clinical career.  Dr. Carlson has developed, contracted-for-funding, and managed multiple programs for diverse client issues and populations.

Dr. Carlson is considered a pioneer in the field of Behavioral Healthcare.  He is an international author on making meaningful and sustainable change with challenging populations.  He teaches professionals how to connect more effectively with their clients and promote change through skill training.  He has authored “CBT for Chronic Pain and Psychological Well-Being” and “Psychological Well-Being in Cancer” through Wiley Publishing.  Dr. Carlson has been signed to a long-term publishing contract with Wiley Publishing. His current works include Value-based trauma work with veterans, increasing compliance, increasing effective work with chronic conditions, and advanced skills training approaches to chronic health conditions.

Dr. Carlson is also an international trainer and consultant. He has conducted training and consulting across North and South America to thousands of professionals.  He is rated extremely high on content, his presentation style, and is continually reviewed as a very dynamic and motivating speaker.  He makes advanced concepts and techniques highly accessible with immediate applicability in people’s professional lives.  He takes a Strength-Based Approach, with a common emphasis on practical applications to complex situations.  Dr. Carlson also creates, designs, and customizes training programs for groups and organizations to increase their effectiveness.  Dr. Carlson was first in his field to present at the NAMCP conference and has presented multiple times for the organization as one of their highest rated speakers.

Dr. Carlson has been contracted by multiple training agencies to be an international trainer on DBT.  He has presented on DBT, Advanced DBT, and Mastering DBT, Personality Disorders, Self-Injurious Behaviors, Treatment-Resistant Clients, Safety Assessment and Contracting, and Rethinking Borderline Personality Disorder: A Strength-Based Approach, with a common emphasis on practical approaches to complex client situations.
