DBT for LGBTQIA+

Skills-based DBT for LGBTQIA+ adults

Finding the right mental health support can feel complicated, especially if you’ve had experiences where you didn’t feel fully seen or accepted.

Mental Health Systems (MHS) – Minnesota’s DBT leader for nearly 25 years – offers Pride, a specialized DBT program for LGBTQIA+ adults who are struggling with their mental health.

Pride provides you with a safe, welcoming space with others who can relate to the struggles those in the community face.

Why Pride: DBT for LGBTQIA?

If you experience stigma, discrimination, identity-related stress, or lack of affirming spaces, these can impact your mental health. Pride creates a space where those realities are acknowledged – not overlooked.

  • Affirming and inclusive care: You don’t have to explain or justify your identity. Our clinicians are experienced in LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy.
  • Structured, skills-based approach: You’ll learn practical DBT skills you can use in everyday life – not just in session.
  • A space for connection: Being in a group with others who share similar experiences can reduce isolation and increase a sense of belonging.

What treatment looks like

The program includes:

  • Skills teaching and application
  • Symptom identification and tracking
  • A coordinated team approach to care

Working with your current therapist

If you already have an individual therapist, you may be able to continue working with them while participating in our Pride program.

We aim to complement – not replace – the support you already have whenever possible.

In-person vs Virtu-Clinic

Is in-person or virtual DBT the best fit for you? Our statistics show the outcomes are similar for in-person versus online DBT, so it’s a matter of your needs and the ability to attend group consistently.
