Practitioners often feel confident in their ability to work with different client presentations and a variety of theoretical approaches. But what about those challenging clients who become stuck, or feel like progress has slowed? What if acceptance and change are out of balance? To address these stuck clients, or clients who are at an impasse with change, attendees will learn how to apply DBT skills and strategies to more effectively join with clients and renew a process of change. A focus will be on adapting the use of DBT skills and strategies with this goal in mind. Prior experience with DBT skills training and philosophy will be helpful, but not required.
Chris is a licensed psychologist at MHS and received his doctorate in clinical psychology from The Minnesota School of Professional Psychology. Chris has extensive experience working with adults and adolescents with severe and persistent mental illness across levels of care spanning from residential to outpatient individual therapy. He has been providing DBT, supervising the provision of DBT, and training staff and students on DBT for 14 years.
At MHS, Chris has been the Clinic Lead of the Edina location since 2014 and the Training Director since 2013. As Clinic Lead, Chris oversees the day to day clinical operations of the Edina clinic and attends to staff and client needs as they arise. As Training Director, Chris oversees the agency training program which includes psychology students, social work students, and psychology doctoral interns. In 2015, Chris wrote the self-study for the doctoral internship program, which is now fully accredited by the APA.
